Netbeans is a great IDE for the java platform and may other languages including C\C++, HTML, PHP, Python, Ruby, Pearl, Ada, Fortan, Assembly and many others it has many great features including GUI editor (for java only), auto complete, syntax highlighting, cross platform support to list a few it is one of the simplest and easiest editors available, it has a great interface, it supports many compilers, and it is regularly updated, it also supports plugins, SVN, CVS, Mercurial and other repositories and it loads very fast.
